NSW Police will be granted new powers to search convicted drug dealers and manufacturers as part of a statewide crackdown on criminal gangs involved in illegal drug supply.
On Thursday the state government passed the Drug Supply Prohibition Order Pilot Scheme Bill 2020, which is designed to keep communities safe.
The new order will be subjected to a two-year pilot across several police districts, including Bankstown, Orana Mid-Western, Hunter Valley and Coffs-Clarence.
Speaking to reporters Police Minister David Elliott said he wanted criminals to know they had 'nowhere to hide' if they were dealing drugs.
'I believe this is the most progressive approach to the war on drugs the state has ever seen,' he said.

He said the new DSPO scheme, coupled with 1500 additional police to be welcomed into the force, would ensure police had the resources and powers they needed to prevent, detect and combat drug crime across the community.
A court issued order will give officers the power to search the homes and vehicles of convicted drug dealers at any time without multiple court warrants but only if police have reason to believe they are involved in a drug-related crime.
'This new legislation will also assist the police in the long-term war on drugs by making sure they disrupt the relationship between the high-end manufacturers and the low-end distributors,' Mr Elliott said.
'What I want the community to know is we're not taking our foot off the brake when it comes to the war against drugs.
